Hello, I'm Ian! (He/They)

As someone who has faced adversity, my journey began in the client's chair. Like some of you, I didn't know what to expect and was concerned about my therapist's opinion of me and how long it would take for things to improve. Although the process was emotionally demanding, therapy felt like a gift, and I've made it my purpose in life to pay it forward.

After enrolling in a psychology course delivered by YALE University, I completed a three-year BSc Counselling programme (BACP-accredited) at the University of East London. There, I received training in Person-Centred, CBT, Psychodynamic, and Existential Therapies. After graduating with first-class honours, I was admitted to Birkbeck University's Gender & Sexuality Studies MSc programme. Using an intersectional and decolonial lens, I studied and researched Homogenic Masculinity and 'Straight-Acting' Gay Masculinities, Commercial Sex, Sexual Abuse and the Law, Queer Identities, Cultures, and Spaces, Lacanian Psychoanalysis, AIDS Activism, Trans Identities, and other topics.

During my training, I volunteered with various organisations, including ELOP, an LGBTQIA+ charity. There, I learned the fundamentals of LGBTQIA+ affirmative counselling and primarily dealt with issues of identity (gender, sexuality, religion), shame, trauma, loss, and depression.
I also worked for London Young Counselling, where I helped young people aged 11 to 17 navigate issues of identity, grief, purpose, and meaning. Working with such diverse clients has inspired me to develop a practice that promotes inclusivity and diversity.
